NEOPETS Prepares for a Mobile Comeback

It looks like Neopets may have finally entered the 21st century. They’re launching a mobile site so players can take care of their pets from smart devices. Finally. With the Animal Crossing obsession in full force, Neopets undoubtedly wants to get in on the action. For those of you who may have forgotten, Neopets is an online virtual pet website where you could adopt your own pet (or “Neopet”). Launching in 1999, the game was all the craze in the early 2000s.

While many of you probably haven’t checked on your little buddies since 2005, the site is still up and running. You get bonus points if you still remember your password. Especially since it will now be available from your phone. Rather than an app, Neopets will have a mobile site—as detailed in the announcement above. It will have all the same features as the desktop version of the site, including daily games, puzzles, community aspects, and more. And course, the site will have a virtual pet-raising experience.

Since the launch of Neopets happened in 1999, it considers itself to be one of the first social media networking sites. They still boast approximately 1.5 million active users today. The hope is that the number will only grow with the aid of their new mobile site.

The new mobile site is pretty streamlined. It’s open for beta testing now. You can sign up on the  Neopets home page. Then just bookmark the page on your mobile device, and you’ll be able to check in on your digital companions while you’re out and about. Waiting in line seems like an activity made for caring for virtual pets.

This app will be different from the Scrabble-like Neopets mobile app game from 2018. While your Neopet’s pets may have resorted to cannibalism while you were away, Neopia is ready to welcome you back with open arms.
