Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan has never made it a secret that he loves anime. From tweeting about Naruto to admitting that anime is not a “guilty” pleasure—just a pleasure!—Jordan fully embraces his love of Japanese animation. So while it shouldn’t be a surprise to see his new collaboration with Coach on a Naruto-inspired fashion collection, what is surprising is how stunning the pieces actually are. Even if you’re not into luxury brands, Coach x Michael B. Jordan is one high-fashion collection that you need to see.
Just take a look at the commercial below, helmed by Black Panther‘s Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison.
“When I saw the collection in person for the first time, it was a dream come true,” said Jordan an interview with Complex. From a distressed denim jacket with Naruto Uzumaki himself emblazoned on the back, to urban hiking boots, to a sleek and soft minimalistic backpack, anime and high fashion have never looked so good together. Many of the pieces combine form and function, particularly the eye-catching three-in-one parka.
While the Naruto symbols are undoubtedly a wonderful touch, it’s the versatility of this outwear that makes it so stunning. The red quilted lining inside can be worn separately, or removed to make a long, light jacket. It can even be worn backpack style for those times when you need your hands free to, say, fight ninjas.
Of course, as a luxury brand collaboration, none of the items in the Michael B. Jordan collection are cheap. Prices range from $95 for T-shirts with Naruto characters on the front to a $2,500 genuine shearling aviator jacket that comes in “Ninjutsu Military Green.” But judging by the photos and the obvious labor of love that Jordan poured into the pieces’ designs, we have a feeling that they will last happy anime fans for years to come.
The Coach x Michael B. Jordan collection is now available, but order quickly! Pieces are flying out of stock faster than you can Naruto run. Fans attending New York Comic Con this weekend can also stop by the VIZ booth (#1336) to see some of the clothing from the collection, and get their hands on exclusive T-shirts at the show.
