Mortal Kombat is back. The eleventh installment in the franchise celebrates the long and deadly journey players have gone on through Earth and the Netherrealm, with a time-twisting story that allows users to fight with different versions of their favorite characters from across generations. It’s a premise absolutely perfect for the newest playable warrior to join the battle, because if there’s anyone who knows what it’s like to hop between the past and the future to try and save the world from total annihilation, it’s Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 from the Terminator franchise, who is showing up with his grizzled beard to teach some old martial artists new tricks. And he’ll be joined by two iconic comic book characters who are also heading into the fray: The Joker and Spawn.
PlayStation announced their Mortal Kombat 11 downloadable pack roster with a great new trailer, and in addition to a white-haired T-800, Joker, and Spawn, it also reveals original villain Shang Tsung will also be back to steal some souls. He’ll be joined by two other classic franchise characters, Nightwolf and Sindel. The Native American Nightwolf made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat 3, as did Sindel, the mother of Princess Kitana. The DLC pack also includes skin and gear for each of the six new characters, along with 19 additional skins for the game.
We know there will always be those who prefer their original looks, but we think both characters’ appearances are better than ever. That goes for the T-800 and Spawn too. We’re nooooot quite sure we’d say that for the Joker, who looks more like someone cosplaying as the Crown Prince of Crime than he does the actual menace of Gotham. Although in fairness it wouldn’t stun us if the joke is on us and he turns out to be something very different than what he appears to be.
Maybe he’ll end up being being the T-1000 in disguise, which is why the T-800 showed up. We don’t need to travel into the future to know that would be awesome.
