What Is the Seafaring Kaiju in MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS?

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two, episode one, the scenes set in 1957 are setting up something big. Really big. Something that the Monarch trailers have teased as “Titan X,” the Titan that all other Titans fear. And we might have our first hint of this creature in the very first episode of season two of Monarch, titled “Cause and Effect.” In the 1957 scenes, we see young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) and his colleagues, Bill Randa (Anders Holm) and Keiko Randa (Mari Yamamoto), on a trip off the coast of Chile to find evidence of a new Titan. And what they discover in a small village fills them with apprehension.

When the trio arrives in a small village, it seems strangely abandoned. Bill Randa then finds a local tavern, and immediately notices a strange, dead creature hanging on the wall, one that looks like a prehistoric crustacean. Or is it a smaller piece from a larger creature? He begins to take photographs, which angers one local in particular. It seems whatever it is, it’s not something the villagers want outsiders knowing about. After a fight is broken up, the trio senses they aren’t wanted there, and decides to leave. A woman who works at the tavern, who happens to speak English, takes them to a cave that might hold answers, as long as they promise to promptly leave town.

The woman takes them to a cave near the sea. She shows them cave paintings that look very ancient, that show some kind of sea creature emerging from the ocean. The painting shows how it dwarfs the adjacent humans in size. Bill Randa is sure he has found the stomping grounds (pun intended) of a new, seafaring Titan. The woman tells them that the locals have been waiting for a very long time for the “Dios del Mar.” Or in English, the God of the Sea. They believe it blesses their waters, and brings them the bounty of the depths. We’re just guessing, but we think this “God of the Sea” will return in the 21st century timeline of the series. And an older Lee Shaw will face a being he only saw hints of decades prior.
