After years of being stuck in development hell, a new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is finally upon us. And now, we have a second trailer for this Travis Knight-directed film. It showcases a buffed-up Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, doing battle against the evil forces of Skeletor (Jared Leto). In this new trailer, we see elements of the classic cartoon and action figure line brought to colorful life. Only now, with modern special effects. The days of the cheap 1987 movie seem like a blurry memory. And of course, we see the franchise’s signature moment, when Adam holds his mighty sword aloft and says “By the Power of Grayskull!” transforming into He-Man. You can watch the full Masters of the Universe trailer below:
In this new trailer, we see how the Eternian royal family sent Prince Adam to Earth as a young child. Presumably, to escape the clutches of Skeletor and his evil warriors, who have conquered the planet. He lives much of his life on Earth as ordinary Adam Glenn. Fans of the cartoon series from the ’80s will remember that Adam’s mother, Queen Marlena, is an astronaut from Earth. So his status as half-Earthling is MOTU canon. When he returns to his homeworld, he reunites with the warrior Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba) and his daughter Teela (Camila Mendes), Captain of the Royal Guard. Also reuniting with Adam is his pet talking tiger, Cringer, who transforms into Battlecat.

As Adam becomes He-Man, he’ll face off not only against Skeletor, but also against his evil minions. Joining Skeletor are his loyal lackeys: Beast Man, Evil-Lyn, Tri-Klops, Trap Jaw, and an obscure deep cut baddie, Goat Man. Luckily, He-Man has his friends to defend Castle Grayskull, as we know that Ram-Man, Mekaneck, Fisto, and others from the toyline are also in this film. The trailer for Masters of the Universe looks colorful and fun. And most importantly, it remembers that this property is based on toys with characters named Stinkor in it. Best to just embrace the innate goofiness and have a good time at the movies.
Masters of the Universe roars into theaters on June 5.
