Marvel Legends Debuts ’90s Retro FANTASTIC FOUR Figures

This week marks 60 years since the publication of Fantastic Four #1. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s reinvention of the superhero concept began what we know today as the Marvel Universe. And the rest, as they say, is a multi-billion dollar history that changed pop culture. The FF has had many iterations over the years, including a vastly underrated animated series in the mid-90s. This show came off the heels of the massive success of the X-Men and Spider-Man animated series.

Fantastic Four only had two seasons, but its second season got a radical reinvention from the first. Season one’s aim was more at very little kids. Season two was more comics accurate, and fans were much happier. And of course, there was an action figure line from Toy Biz to go with it. So now, the modern Marvel Legends line from Hasbro is doing a tribute to that ’90s FF toy aesthetic with a new line of figures, announced via the Hasbro Pulse live stream.

The Fantastic Four retro wave showcases Marvel’s First Family in their ’90s blue and white uniforms. Designed by artist John Byrne in the ’80s, these costumes were later popularized in the animated show that ran from 1994-1996. And also the never-released (but often bootlegged) Fantastic Four movie from Roger Corman. But let’s not talk about that.

This wave includes the whole FF family. It features Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Susan Richards (The Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (The Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing).  All are available for pre-order on the Hasbro Pulse site starting at 1PM Easter on August 10.

There are also two variants. A clear “invisible” Sue Storm, and a Johnny Storm flaming on. These two figures will also be available to pre-order on August 10,  at 1PM Eastern exclusively on Hasbro Pulse.

But the FF also have Marvel’s greatest villains. Doctor Victor Von Doom gets a figure in this Marvel Legends wave, of course. And for the first time, FF villains the High Evolutionary and the Psycho Man join the line.

The Hasbro live stream also revealed that they are still hoping to make the 32″ tall Galactus build-a-figure. They revealed that those who back the project will also receive a Frankie Raye Nova figure, featuring one of the Heralds of Galactus. To watch the entire live stream, be sure to click here.
