Lynda Carter & Patty Jenkins to Discuss WONDER WOMAN at 50

No matter who will portray DC Comics’ Amazing Amazon in the future, Wonder Woman will always be synonymous with Lynda Carter. From 1975-1979, Carter played Diana Prince on the TV series Wonder Woman, becoming an icon to millions. With the show currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum will celebrate not only Wonder Woman, but also Women’s History Month with a special public program at the Arts & Industries Building on the National Mall. The program features a headline conversation with Lynda Carter. Joining her is Patty Jenkins, director of 2017’s blockbuster Wonder Woman and 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984.

After the conversation between Carter and Jenkins, there will be a panel discussion on the “Wonder Woman effect.” This will cover how the character of Princess Diana of Themyscira inspired so many people. First in comics and film, and then in real-world leadership and representation. This discussion will showcase voices from the worlds of entertainment, business, and even public service. According to The Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, the event will “reflect on why generations have looked up to Wonder Woman not just for her superpowers, but for the idea that courage, wisdom, and agency are within reach.”

The event will take place on March 5, at the Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The building is located at 900 Jefferson Drive SW, Washington, DC. This is, of course, rather fitting, as the ’70s Wonder Woman television series actually took place in Washington, DC. First, in the World War II era season one, then in the later two seasons, which took place in the 1970s. Wonder Woman actually preceded popular shows like Charlie’s Angels and The Bionic Woman. It deserves a lot of recognition for breaking ground for women in action-oriented media. The upcoming event is free, but registration is required. You can register for the event now by clicking here.
