LOVECRAFT COUNTRY Trailer Teases An Intriguing Journey

The late Summer and Fall TV season will not be the same in 2020. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a few great shows to look forward to. Jordan Peele, Misha Green, J.J. Abrams, and Ben Stephenson are combining their forces to bring Lovecraft Country to life on August 16. The series, based on Matt Ruff’s book of the same-name, will put a dramatic horror spin on a road trip. And, if the series trailer is any indication of what’s to come, it’s going to a stunning ride.

Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black, a man searching for his father. He brings his friend Letitia and his Uncle George on a road trip to locate his missing father. It’s a dangerous feat considering they are Black people traveling in a segregated 1950s America. The trip is even more perilous because there are also evil monsters along the way.

In the Lovecraft Country clip, Atticus is reading about heroes who go on adventures and defeat monsters. It’s a life that he can only imagine as a young man from the South Side of Chicago. The heroic stories from his book seem to manifest into his own life when he goes after a birthright that has been kept from the family. The trailer then takes a few twists and turns, including a meeting with a woman who promises unmitigated power.

Letitia senses that there is something there trying to get out—and she is 100 percent correct. Atticus is told that he cannot win the game that’s being set up for him. But Atticus says there is a legacy that belongs to their family. There are several shots taken from different areas and time periods to explore the Black family history.

Jordan Peele doesn’t miss when it comes to combining social commentary with horror concepts. The Lovecraft Country trailer visually engaging, intriguing, and will draw in fans of the book as well as newbies wanting to get onboard.
