LEGO Ideas ’80s-Inspired Contest Features GREMLINS, BEETLEJUICE, and More

Ah, the ’80s. The decade that will seemingly never die. Why is it so indestructible? Chiefly for the metric ton of memorable pop culture that ten-year span dumped on the world. As a way of further celebrating this decade of media excess, we’ve learned (via Boing Boing) that the folks at LEGO are having another If We Could Turn Back Time Challenge, (hey, shout out to Cher!) asking fans to vote on specific ’80s-inspired potential builds, which may become future LEGO Ideas sets.

Among the ’80s-inspired LEGO sets submitted this year are ones for E.T., Gremlins, Beetlejuice, Big, and our personal fave, Golden Girls. Others have submitted the latter for a LEGO Ideas set once or twice before. Maybe this time Dorothy, Rose, Blache, and Sophia will finally make it into production? The vote is open from May 20 to May 27, at 2 pm CEST. Each member will have one vote for their favorite entry. Down below you can see images of each submission:

In the past few years, several LEGO fans have suggested sets based on pop culture properties, and actually got them made. A fan suggested a Seinfeld set, and they produced that one a few years back. Fans have submitted all kinds of ideas over the years, from The Muppet Show to The Flintstones to Dungeons & Dragons. While we’re really rooting for the Golden Girls (it’s their time), it would not be a shock if Beetlejuice won the contest. If only because he’s got a sequel hitting theaters this year. To cast your vote, be sure to head on over to the LEGO Ideas official blog, and let your voice be heard.
