KPop Demon Hunters is undoubtedly one of the biggest films to come out in 2025. We bet that Sony really wishes it had bet big on this film and put it in theaters versus letting it go straight to streaming via Netflix. Then again, the film may not have been so successful without it being so accessible thanks to streaming. Either way, there is a legion of kids who love Huntr/x, the K-pop girl group who live double lives as demon hunters. So it is not at all shocking that a KPop Demon Hunters sequel is on the way; however, it is wild that it will not come out until 2029.
We get it. There’s a lot of work that goes into putting an animated film from inception to completion. However, a lot of those kids who dug the first film are going to be totally different people by the time the second one comes around. But maybe that’s not a huge deal considering that there will be another group of K-pop lovin’ kiddos to take their place.
Maybe the production schedule will move quicker than expected and we can get the KPop Demon Hunters sequel sooner rather than in 2029. It is a phenomenon after all with an animated group that has three songs on the Billboard 100 charts, according to Variety. And it holds the record for the most watched Netflix movie of all-time. That’s very wild considering that Netflix’s first original movie was Lilyhammer in 2012.
There are so many questions to explore with Rumi, Mira, and Zoey and a lot of lore that the first film touches on rather lightly. We will have to see what this next round has in store.
