JUSTICE LEAGUE Toy Leaks Reveal Villain Steppenwolf

When it was announced who the villain in the upcoming Justice League film was going to be, most DC Comics fans reacted with a collective “what, really?” when it turned out to be Steppenwolf, a character who, despite his badass name, is nowhere near as well-known as his boss  Darkseid.

Most fans were expecting someone a little more well known from the JLA rogue’s gallery, like the previously mentioned Darkseid, or maybe Brainiac or Despero. Heck, maybe even the Legion of Doom. But Steppenwolf? No one saw that coming. And until now, no one has really known what the character will look like in the film, despite some LEGO images recently leaked that gave us only a vague idea.[brightcove video_id=”5449847523001″ brightcove_account_id=”3653334524001″ brightcove_player_id=”2bfa565b-5412-4cfd-9211-6269880b8a5e”]

Luckily, the folks from Batman-On-Film have found some early toy releases at a California Kmart from the upcoming Zack Snyder (and Joss Whedon) directed movie, which apparently gives us our first real look at Steppenwolf. You can see what Darkseid’s general (and uncle) looks like in the tweet down below:

Judging from the image, it appears that Steppenwolf will look more human than his computer generated avatar in the Kryptonian ship from the deleted scene from  Batman v Superman suggested he would. Game of Thrones actor  Ciarán Hinds is playing the warlord from Apokolips, and based on this toy, he actually also looks pretty darn intimidating, worthy of being the League’s first big bad. Based on the figure, I’m thinking I can see this guy taking on Superman to the point where Superman actually needs the help of his friends.

The fact that Steppenwolf is the main villain in Justice League also makes us wonder if we’ll see other Apokoliptian characters from Jack Kirby’s Fourth World. While it seems Warner Brothers and DC are holding off on Darkseid till the sequel, that doesn’t mean we won’t see any other characters who are among Darkseid’s elite warriors. Right?

What do you make of this early look at the League’s big bad? Be sure to let us know down below in the comments.
