We all know and love the Justice League. But, just stick with me on this, what if their stories took place in prehistoric times? And I don’t mean just plopping the Man of Steel or the Dark Knight into times where dinosaurs roamed the Earth. (Although that would be very fun if it hasn’t been done before.) I mean making the famous heroes, our beloved Justice League crew, actual dinosaurs. That is exactly what DC Comics is gonna do with The Jurassic League, a six-issue limited series with some incredible artwork and a wild take on characters we know so well.
Daniel Warren Johnson and Juan Gedeon will cowrite The Jurassic League, which will hit shelves on May 10. Check out the fun description for the comic:
You know the story: an infant escapes the destruction of its home planet and is deposited on Earth to be raised by human parents. A goddess from a lost city defends truth. A Theropod dons the visage of a bat to strike fear into evildoers’ hearts. This heroic trinity, alongside a league of other super-powered dinosaurs, join forces to save a prehistoric Earth from the sinister machinations of Darkseid. Wait…what? Okay, maybe you don’t know the story. So join us and bear witness to a brand-new—yet older than time—adventure and experience the Justice League as you have never seen them before!
Gedeon is also doing double duty here as the artist. And whoa do the illustrations look amazing. It makes us hyped to see how this all goes down. DC senior editor Katie Kubert spoke further in a release about why this idea was a no-brainer in her eyes.
“Words cannot express how excited I am for this book,” said Kubert. “As a life-long dinosaur lover, and a dinosaur tour-guide and fossil preparer for two of the most prestigious natural history museums, this book speaks to my heart and science-soul. When Juan came to me with the idea, and Daniel Warren Johnson doubled down on it, I knew we had something truly special and I can’t wait for fans to fall in Mezosoic-love.”
It’s bizarre and fun. Yes, it’s Justice League as dinosaurs. The mighty Jurassic League.
