Rick Baker isn’t one of the greatest artists in special effects history, he’s the greatest, with 11 Academy Award nominations to his name (and seven of those were wins). His credits include The Exorcist, Star Wars, An American Werewolf in London, Thriller, and many more. Baker’s been retired from the film industry since 2015, but he teamed up with the folks at DC Collectibles to bring to life their most iconic and terrifying villain: the Joker. The artist sculpted a limited edition, life-size collector’s bust that is both gorgeous and insanely creepy.Baker designed, sculpted, and painted this work of art that will hit shelves on Halloween. You can watch him create this work of art in a special time-lapse video which you can see above. Baker said in a release, “When DC Collectibles approached me about this project, I jumped at the chance to do something with The Joker.”He continued, “The Joker is one of the most notorious super-villains of all time, and I had a blast depicting his twisted and demented personality through this bust. The DC Collectibles team was great to work with and gave me complete creative freedom to bring my version of the character to life.â€The Joker bust measures 1:1 scale/approximately 22 inches tall and will be available in two distinct versions. The Ultimate Edition is limited to 50 numbered pieces and produced from Baker’s original molds, offering fans a version that is just one step removed from the Academy Award winner’s original creation. Each of these $1,500 busts comes with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Baker. The Standard Edition bust is limited to 150 numbered pieces and features The Joker sporting an orange shirt and purple vest. This one will come in at $1,000. You can place pre-orders through DC Comics. You can check out several images of this amazing Joker bust in the gallery below. What do you think of this legend’s latest amazing work of art?
