Jeff Goldblum Releasing His Debut Jazz Album

There are plenty of iconic elements to Jeff Goldblum: His singular charm, the wine-like way that he’s aging, and of course, his voice. He’s one of those celebrities that everybody does an impression of, and he’s used his voice for some singing here and there. For instance, here he is performing “Just A Friend” with Biz Markie and Jimmy Fallon years ago:

It’s a bit of a goofy performance, but there are shades of Goldblum’s vocal abilities here, and a more obvious look at his ability to lead an engaging musical performance. Now, he’s getting serious about his music: Universal’s classical label Decca Records has signed Goldblum to a record deal, and the actor will release his first album later this year (via Billboard).

It was actually the performance below, in which Goldblum accompanies Gregory Porter on “Mona Lisa,” that caught the attention of label executives. Decca director of A&R Tom Lewis accurately says of Goldblum in a statement, “As far as I can tell, everyone loves Jeff Goldblum. He’s a fantastic jazz pianist, a great band leader, and just about the loveliest man in the world. His love of jazz is infectious and whenever he plays he makes you feel very happy. If we can take Jeff’s music into people’s homes then we will be helping, in our own small way, to make the world a happier place.”

There’s no word yet on what Goldblum’s album will entail, or exactly when it will be released, but it’s definitely something to look forward to later in 2018.

Are you looking forward to the album? Do you think Goldblum’s charm will translate well into song? Let us know what you think in the comments!
