Where there’s a will, there’s a way. That’s certainly true for Jason Momoa and his quest to become the DCU’s Lobo. Momoa texted Gunn literally the MINUTE he took over the DCU to ask after the Lobo role. And Momoa recently revealed that Lobo has always been his favorite comic book character. True kismet. Now, Momoa is finally getting to don that black and white makeup and make his dream real as Lobo arrives to the DCU in Supergirl. We’ve seen a few different looks at Jason Momoa’s Lobo in other Supergirl sneak peeks, but in the movie’s full trailer, Lobo really steals the show… I mean, who can resist a chain hook?

This Supergirl trailer starts to give us a sense of where Momoa’s Lobo will fit into Supergirl. It’s looking something like something along the lines of “begrudging ally’s drink gets interrupted, so he comes along to destroy the villains who dared to disturb him.” And, in this case, Lobo’s villains are also Supergirl’s villains.
In the trailer, we see three major sequences starring Momoa’s Lobo in this Supergirl trailer. First, Lobo orders Supergirl to stop fighting or maybe talking after a bar battle sequence. “Stop,” He growls, taking a drink of something potent and throwing the glass onto the floor, “You’re hurting my head.” Yup, that’s Lobo.
Next up, we see Lobo revving his iconic skull motorcycle, which looks good. Momoa cackles gleefully as he drives off, heading somewhere we can’t see, a set of explosions bursting into flames in Lobo’s wake.
Finally, Lobo and Supergirl get snarky during a battle. “Aren’t you the ditz from that dive bar?” Lobo demands rudely, and Supergirl scoffs. “Funny,” She shoots back, “That’s what I’ve been calling you.” And that’s how you win Lobo’s respect. “Touche!” He acknowledges. And then, there it is, Lobo’s chain hook makes its grand appearance in Supergirl‘s trailers. Lobo’s chain hook is one of his most iconic weapons, and like much of everything else, it’s rocking in live-action. He whips it all around and crushes his enemeies. Lobo: tongue = out, laugh = maniacal, casting = perfect.

All in all, Jason Momoa’s Lobo has an incredibly comic-accurate makeup and costume. And, as we’ve remarked before, Momoa also has the energy of Lobo down pat.
For those who don’t know who Lobo is, here’s our quick explanation of Jason Momoa’s anti-hero, although you can learn more about the DC character in our big explainer piece: “The muscled Lobo is an alien bounty hunter in DC’s world. He has long black hair and glowing red eyes, and yeah, he looks like Jason Momoa. Additionally, Lobo’s irreverence, might, and anti-hero tendencies will mesh well with Momoa’s acting talents. Lobo made his comic debut in the 1980s in The Omega Men by writer/artist Keith Giffen, then got an update in Justice League International which kicked off in 1987. Lobo really took off in the ’90s… And now, he’s going to take off again as Jason Momoa brings Lobo to life on the big screen in Supergirl.”

Jason Momoa’s Lobo will arrive in full when Supergirl releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
