Artist Joe Allard’s responsible for the initial design, and Mondo details in a behind-the-scenes blogOpens in a new tab how they worked with Iron Giant director Brad BirdOpens in a new tab and Tiki Farm to get the look of the endearing character exactly right. The main release is a very robot-y shade of grey.
They’re also offering bone and “ghost” finishes through their website; a brown version will be available from Alamo Drafthouse in March.
If Iron Giant isn’t your jam, Mondo’s upcoming designs might have you reaching for decorative drink umbrellas. They’re working on mugs inspired by Cthulhu, Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park, and Jaws. No one will judge you if go ahead and purchase a new shelf for these mugs right now.
