HOUSE OF THE DRAGON To End with Season 4, Confirms HBO

House of the Dragon will officially come to a close with season four. Alas, it feels like the fire and the blood were just picking up speed, but it turns out we’re halfway done with the series already. But, on the other hand, we always love a series that knows when to bow out. A story that stretches on without good reason is never a good one. And so, it’s bittersweet for HBO to confirm that the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, will end with season four. Here’s what we learned about the ending of the Game of Thrones series.

Casey Bloys, HBO’s CEO, confirmed to Deadline that House of the Dragon would end with season four. When asked, Bloys offered. “Yes, that is the idea. The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”

Previously, showrunner Ryan Condal had shared the news that House of the Dragon would only be four seasons long. But HBO had yet to confirm that the series would end with its fourth season. But it feels like Bloys finally feels confident enough to put a number on it. And hey, like we said, we’d rather House of the Dragon end strong than meander without aim.

When asked if the fourth and final season of House of the Dragon would be longer than the rest in celebration of the story’s ending, Bloys noted, “Ryan is working, like any show like this; he is finishing post on Season 3 and working with the writers on what Season 4 looks like. I don’t know where he’s landed on the episode count yet.” Fair enough.

HBO has already renewed House of the Dragon for season four, its now final season. Season three of House of the Dragon will arrive this summer. We can’t wait to see what will happen on House of the Dragon as it approaches its end.
