HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 3 Trailer Brings Fire, Blood, and Grief

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been telling a much quieter, more intimate story than it’s predecessors in Westeros. (You can read the other stories too, if you wish!) But it wasn’t that long before Dunk and Egg when dragons still danced high above the skies of the Realm. Now those creatures are ready to rain fire and blood over House Targaryen. And also on all of their supporters. The action-packed first trailer for House of the Dragon season three promises that war, no matter how much some would like to avoid it, is inevitable.

Alicent and Rhaenyra’s plans to end House Targaryen’s civil war is doomed in House of the Dragon‘s third season. Aemond Targaryen, acting as King with his brother Aegon off hiding in the woods, will guarantee his mother’s plans to open the gates to King’s Landing for Rhaenyra’s coronation fails. That will mean plenty of bloodshed, both in the streets, on the seas, and in the skies. All out war is coming to Westeros, including some very big, important battles we expected to see in season two. (And they looks spectacular, a reminder of the production values that have always held the show up even when the writing has not.)

HBO’s tagline for the season says, “The march toward fire and darkness begins!” That march will also include plenty of tears. This emotional promo is full of rueful faces and grief, as war means death. Lots of death.. (It’s also full of Ser Criston Cole’s stupid punk face, but I suppose that’s inevitable.)

For those who have been enjoying A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, this trailer (coming just days before the season one finale of Dunk and Egg’s show) is a reminder of just how different that series is. But there’s room for both in the Realm. Sometimes it’s fun to see dragons dance. And we’ll be reminded why when House of the Dragon returns from its lengthy hiatus this June.
