We appreciate anyone who loves a particular food enough to have it become part of their identity. Cookie Monster, Chuck E. Cheese, Kevin Bacon. Plus, people whose names aren’t even related to the food! When it comes to hot, tasty flapjacks, no one in pop culture loves them more than Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. The big red guy celebrates his 30th anniversary this year, a truly impressive milestone. To celebrate, and to coincide with this year’s National Pancake Day (which is September 26th, naturally), Dark Horse Direct is releasing a hand-numbered, limited edition print of Mignola’s iconic, two-page Pancakes comic, in which young Hellboy discovers “pamcakes.”
Nerdist is pleased to bring you the exclusive announcement, plus images of the print, which shows the original black-and-white version of the short.
Pancakes first appeared in the 1999 Dark Horse Presents Annual. Written and drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, the seminal story gives fans a glimpse into what it was like to raise a young Hellboy and reminds readers that he’s not so different from any other kid on Earth. And I know Hellboy himself spent decades worrying about whether he’d be made to succumb to his evil lineage, but the denizens of Hell realize they’ve lost him the moment he takes a bite.
The elegant black and white screenprint is 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall and printed on 100# Cougar uncoated paper. Hand-numbered and limited to just 250 units, this collector’s piece is expected to ship in November 2024. The Hellboy 30th Anniversary: Pancakes! Screenprint is $60.00. Fans can pre-order now exclusively from Dark Horse Direct.
If you love Hellboy, and pancakes, this is a must-get. I’m a major Hellboy fan and you can bet when it’s on my wall, I’ll say “Hey…I love it!”
