Valentine’s Day is hard on a lot of people, even those with dates or in long-term relationships. But Screen Gems and Spyglass’ upcoming horror-comedy Heart Eyes is going to show why the most romantic day of the year can be so much worse. The movie’s new trailer introduces a lovely new cinematic slasher. This silent stalker doesn’t want love in the air. He wants blood everywhere.
“Cupid with a kink” is on the prowl in the first look at Heart Eyes with a trailer that starts off like a classic rom-com. That is until it introduces arguably the most romantic(ish) serial killer to ever grace the big screen. Then it becomes a hor-com. This masked slasher sports two glowing red heart-shaped eyes and only strikes couples on Valentine’s Day. For the past two years no one has been able to stop him. They haven’t been able to survive him yet, either. But this trailer features a new pairing who hopes their meet cute doesn’t lead to them being cut meat. (Nailed it.)
Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within) directs with a script from Phillip Murphy and Christopher Landon & Michael Kennedy. It stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster.
What would drive someone to kill couples during this holiday? The easy answer is that this person is unloved and jealous. The more believable answer is they got so angry about trying to make restaurant reservations every year on Valentine’s Day they snapped. And if that’s the case we get it. We get it.
You can probably guess what month the movie is coming to theaters. That’s right! Just in time for Valentine’s Day. Heart Eyes premieres on February 7, 2025.
Will it make for the perfect date night on Cupid’s big day? Absolutely, because even if your date hates it, at least they’ll see there are much worse outcomes on Valentine’s Day.
