Backrooms is taking over HBO Max, and the streaming service found the perfect way to promote the film’s arrival. HBO took some of its most popular shows, from The Sopranos to Lanterns, and placed those characters into the movie’s iconic yellow-tinged liminal spaces for a humorous promo. The social caption, which simply says “Took a wrong turn,” is obviously what happens in Backrooms when someone’s misstep (no-clipping), whether literal or spiritual, leads to being stuck in this surrealist dimension.
Some of our favorite clips from the HBO Max Backrooms video are when Hal and John are standing side by side. Hal says “Jazz. That can’t be good.” and we can only imagine these two together in this kind of strange space. Our beloved Dunk & Egg from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms chill on the floor as Egg says that perhaps he could chill here for a bit. There’s also a small clip of the very large and loveable Dunk hitting his head on a door frame because of course he would do that. We do not recommend staying there long or even being there at all, guys. Get out.
Nerdist’s Take: We Love Creative Mashups, and HBO Max Pulled a Lot of Fandoms Together

And, there’s also The Righteous Gemstones, where Kelvin says he’s having anxiety flashes and sharp s**t pains in his stomach. Man, we really miss that show. It’s also a reminder of just how much greatness HBO has given to us over the years. We love a creative marketing campaign.
Get into the spooky season spirit and stream Backrooms on HBO Max.
