HBO Max Adds Shuffle Play Feature to 45 Shows

HBO Max is shaking things up. Like its streaming contemporaries, HBO Max is launching a shuffle feature. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean we’ll suddenly start watching Mare Sheehan vape out of order. Right now, the shuffle option applies to only a selection of the streaming platform’s ever-growing catalog. HBO Max wants the shuffle feature to help you find a show to watch.

According to Variety, where we first saw the news, a shuffle feature was a much-requested feature. So really, HBO Max is giving the people what they want. Netflix added its own shuffle feature, called Play Something, last year and it is a nice way to get something on the TV without going down the content rabbit hole. A spokesperson told the trade, “With an added element of serendipity, selecting the shuffle button lets you kick your feet up and start watching faster.”

HBO Max has added the shuffle component to 45 shows across its catalog. And it’s a pretty sweet selection. One that spans pretty much every major interest and genre—from animated offerings for kids and adults to reality shows to a good old-fashioned sitcom. But it sounds like there are plans to expand further soon. And with the Discovery merger finalized soon, hopefully, we’ll see some Food Network goods added to the list.

Here’s a full list of the shows with the new shuffle feature, listed in alphabetical order:

A World of Calm; Adventure Time; Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown; Apple & Onion; Chappelle’s Show; Courage the Cowardly Dog; Craig of the Creek; Curb Your Enthusiasm; Ed, Ed and Eddy; ER; Flight of the Conchords; Fresh Prince; Friends; Full House; Great Pottery Throwdown; Hot Ones; How It Really Happened; Impractical Jokers; Key & Peele; Looney Tunes; Martin; Mike & Molly; Regular Show; Reno 911!; Rick & Morty; Robot Chicken; Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!; Selena + Chef; Sesame Street; South Park; Teen Titans Go!; The Amazing World of Gumball; The Big Bang Theory; The Boondocks; The Mentalist; The Middle; The Nanny; The Office (UK); The Shot: Uninterrupted; Tom and Jerry; Total Dramarama; Two and a Half Men; We Bare Bears; Whose Line is it Anyway; Young Sheldon.

There really is a little something for everyone! It appears the shuffle feature is currently available on the HBO Max desktop site. But here’s hoping it expands to the TV apps soon.
