The Original GHOSTBUSTERS Are Back in Action in New FROZEN EMPIRE Image

The original Ghostbusters are back, baby. And this time, we didn’t have to wait decades between appearances on screen. Only three years since Afterlife, they’ll be appearing together again in this year’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Thanks to the latest issue of Empire Magazine, we have some great action shots of the surviving OG Ghostbusters in action. Including Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkmen, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. You can see a new image of Venkman and Zeddemore, proton packs in hand, right here:

In this new iteration of the iconic franchise, Winston has gone from “the new guy” in the classic Ghostbusters film to the man who runs the whole show in 2024. Here’s what he told Empire about his character’s new role in the overall Ghostbusters corporation.

Winston’s a wealthy guy now, and he’s funding research into new technology and the science behind ghostbusting. When the world is threatened… Who you gonna call? He suits up with the rest of them.”

However, it seems Winston doesn’t want Ray to suit up and fight ghosts anymore. This won’t sit well with Ray, who still wants to run around and catch ghosts like it’s 1984. Judging from the cover of the Empire issue, it also seems Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) is suiting up too. She’s way past just answering phones. Given her crush on the late Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), it makes sense she’d put a proton pack on to honor him. The director, Gil Kenan, has said his film is influenced by the weird mythology developed for The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. That show ran for years, and much of the nostalgia for the franchise comes from that animated series. It’s no wonder they’re leaning into it for the new film. That show rocked, so we can’t blame them one bit.
