It’s been a few moons now since we’ve gotten a new Foo Fighters album. To be more specific, Sonic Highways, the band’s eighth and most recent studio album, came out in 2014. There are signs of life from within the Foo Fighters camp, though, since Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins debuted a brand new song last night (via Diffuser).
The premiere took place at the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit show, which has been hosted by Sammy Hagar and James Hetfield every year since 2014. However, Metallica’s out on tour right now, so Grohl stepped in to take Hetfield’s place, and he apparently thought the event was a good opportunity to perform an acoustic version of a song called “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” with bandmate Taylor Hawkins and Foo Fighters associate Rami Jaffee.
“I figured, on the way up here, I thought, ‘F— it, let’s play a new song, man,'” Grohl said while introducing the tune. “We’ve never played this song in front of anybody.” The performance featured some energetic and gravelly vocals from Grohl atop a base of acoustic guitar, piano, and drums, and all in all would likely feel right at home on a Foo Fighters record.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that a new Foo Fighters album is imminent, though. In March, guitarist Chris Shiflett told NME, “I don’t know what our plans are, but we’ll make a new album when the time is right. There will be a new Foo Fighters at some point.”
While we all wait for a new album that’s coming at some point, head to the comments and let us know what you think about the song that might be an early preview of it.
