Spotify’s FINAL FANTASY Playlists Are Worth Their Weight in Gil

Between the Final Fantasy VII remake on PlayStation 4 and the announcement of a live-action series in development, there’s never been a better time to be a fan of Final Fantasy. Spotify and Square Enix are making the lives of fans even more amazing with the addition of official new playlists. These collect tracks from the over thirty years of incredible game music. And we’re not just talking soundtracks sorted by game; Spotify has five curated lists of Final Fantasy music with tracks picked by mood or activity.

Whether you’re driving, could use some cheering up, or just in need of a good cry, there’s a Final Fantasy Spotify playlist for whatever mood you’re in.

Each playlist is a collection of tracks from the franchise’s many composers. Not only the master Nobuo Uematsu, but also Masashi Hamauzu (X and XIII), Naoshi Mizuta (XI and XIV), and Yoko Shimomura (XV). Our current favorite is “FINAL FANTASY -relax-“. It’s one of those playlists you can turn on whenever you have a big deadline and need to focus.

The -fight!- playlist will have you ready to take on the world as 8-bit beats, sweeping symphonic suites, and of course, battle themes blast. (May we humbly suggest that one for your next workout?) The -drive- playlist might also keep your foot on the gas if you’re not too careful, but you can’t beat it for keeping your energy up during a long haul.

Finally, Spotify and Square Enix also have a playlist of essential tracks. What’s more essential than the theme that started it all, the prelude from the original Final Fantasy? You’ll also find classics like “J-E-N-O-V-A” and “Aerith’s Theme” from VII, the battle theme from IV, and much, much more.

What’s your favorite piece of Final Fantasy music? Tell us in the comments.
