I am a fan of all sorts of fan art, but something about art created in traditional mediums is special. Maybe it’s because seeing art created without using a computer reminds me of art school classes throughout my youth, making stuff and making messes with pastels and paint. Don’t get me wrong, I do adore digital art as well–all the mediums offer something–but the kind of paintings artist and photographer Ashlee Hussey makes grab my attention.
She sent her watercolor illustrations to me for Fan Art Friday, and I want to hug them–but I won’t because it would probably ruin them. Watch Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon take shape in this cool time-lapse video (I’m a sucker for time-lapse videos):
Behold the finished product:
You’ll find more of Ashlee’s watercolors in the gallery below. She’s also painted a Niffler from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, R2-D2 and BB-8 from Star Wars, and a lovely Lion King tribute. Follow her on Instagram and Twitter to see more art.
Do you create any sort of fan art? If so, I want to see it. Whether you focus on a specific fandom or pull inspiration from multiple stories and mediums, I’d like to highlight you. If you’d like to be featured in a future Fan Art Friday gallery, get in touch with me at alratcliffe@yahoo.com with examples of your work.
