Yoda Channels Kermit in May the 4th Tribute

Most years, May the 4th is a jovial celebration. Fans all over the world come together to celebrate Star Wars and its ongoing legacy. But this year, in the midst of a global pandemic, when everyone is largely sheltering in place, the energy feels slightly more subdued. It’s also why this sweet, simple tribute from The Empire Strips Back feels so fitting. The Australian burlesque troupe took a different approach to their annual May the 4th video. Take a trip to Dagobah and watch Yoda channel his inner Kermit and perform “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie.

This is exactly the calming energy we need during this high-anxiety time.

In the description, The Empire Strips Back wrote that despite social-distancing, they were determined to make something special for fans. Their message reads, “Even though the team has been in isolation we thought it was more important than ever to make our annual May 4th video. This one we wanted to break the corona news cycle and bring you something with a bit of silliness, a bit magic and a whole heap of love, enjoy. Stay safe and May the fourth be with you!”

The Empire Strips Back

The Empire Strips Back is an Australia-based Star Wars burlesque parody show that has toured all over the world, including the U.S., U.K., and Canada. While best known for their delightful, show-stopping performances, this isn’t their first brush with a more sentimental May the 4th tribute. Last year, following the passing of Peter Mayhew, the company honored the actor and Chewbacca’s legacy.

This May the 4th might feel a little different, given everything going on in the world right now. But this sweet Yoda-rific homage to Kermit made Star Wars Day shine a little bit brighter.
