A24 is no stranger to crafting some truly strange yet profound films. We loved previous hits like Talk to Me and Everything Everywhere All At Once and it seems this upcoming offering will be no different. The fantastic and wildly talented Jenna Ortega is teaming up with our unproblematic and ageless king Paul Rudd (you may have heard of him) for Death of a Unicorn, a wild horror comedy adventure with a humorously dark trailer.
As the title suggests, this film involves the unfortunate death of a unicorn. Rudd and Ortega are father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill (or so they believe…) a unicorn on their way to a retreat. Everyone—well, except Ortega’s character—is in denial about what this animal is for good reason. Unicorns are fun but also aren’t supposed to exist in our realm.
Naturally, instead of respecting this creature’s existence, there’s a rich guy who wants to exploit its curative powers. Enter a billionaire (Richard E. Grant), whose team discovers that this creature is the cure to cancer, among other things. All goes awry when Mama Unicorn comes looking for her baby that they are holding hostage and experimenting on. Let’s just say it uses its alicorn to harm and not to heal. All in all, the Death of a Unicorn trailer is a fun romp that promises a good time.
