We know actor David Dastmalchian for his wide array of comic book movies and TV show characters. He’s been in The Dark Knight, the Ant-Man films, The Flash, and most recently, The Suicide Squad. That’s four separate comics-inspired cinematic universes! But that’s not the only comics connection that Dastmalchian has. He recently wrote his own comic book series, published by Dark Horse: Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter.
Now, Dastmalchian is returning to that ooky-spooky world, along with artist Lukas Ketner. Our lead hero is a reluctant monster hunter no more, and ready to embrace her newfound calling. You can check out Dastmalchian’s video announcement, which Nerdist is exclusively debuting, for his follow-up series Count Crowley: Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter above. And he even dressed up as his own retro horror host Dr. Fearless just for the occasion!
In the first series, Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter, fans met struggling investigative journalist/creature-feature host/reluctant monster-hunter Jerri Bartman. So she’s basically Lois Lane meets Elvira meets Buffy. So yeah, what’s not to like? You can read the official description for the follow-up Count Crowley series right here:
It’s been a hell of a week for Jerri Bartman. She lost her job, crashed her car, took the only gig available hosting the midnight monster show, and…oh yeah—dismembered a zombie. No big deal. Now, to protect the people she loves, she’s going to have to take a crash course in monster hunting. And quickly—a vengeful vampire just booked a first-class flight into town.
Someone partly inspired David Dastmalchian: Crematia Mortem, a late-night horror hostess. From 1981 to 1990, she hosted Creature Feature on a local Kansas City, Missouri TV station. And one of her biggest fans was a young Dastmalchian. Now, he’s translated that love of Crematia, along with old monster movies, sci-fi, and comics, into this new series.
Count Crowley: Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter #1 will be in comic shops March 23, 2022. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.
