DARK CRYSTAL Prequel Series Drops Amazing First Trailer

We’ve been champing at the bit to see Netflix’s new Jim Henson project The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance ever since it was first announced in 2017. Since then, the streamer has been making exciting casting announcements and releasing awesome photos, but we had yet to be treated to a full trailer… until now.

The epic trailer showcases just how dedicated Netflix is to staying true to Henson’s vision, and is filled with a whole lot of good puppet action on a scale that has rarely been seen. This teaser also gives us our first proper idea of the narrative of the ten-episode season, which will see the action return to the mythical world of Thra and introduce three new Gelfling characters: Rian (Taron Egerton), Brea (Anya-Taylor Joy), and Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel.)

According to the official synopsis, Age of Resistance focuses on “an all-new adventure” that’s sparked “when three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.” That sounds pretty great to us, especially if it’s going to be as immersive and pretty as this trailer.

Something that immediately stands out about this gorgeous teaser is the massive scale of the world of the Gelflings. Gone are the small caves and hills that made puppeteering easier; this trailer is full of sprawling backdrops, incredible landscapes, and impossible action that seems closer to a big-budget live action fantasy than a reboot of a classic ’80s puppet property. It’s an unexpectedly spectacular hint at what’s to come when the series drops on Netflix on August 30. After this, we absolutely cannot wait.

Until then, we’ll be rewatching the original Dark Crystal and dreaming of our very own epic adventure featuring cute Gelflings, evil Skeksies, and of course some seriously incredible puppets!
