Explore the Universe of DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is one of the most ambitious series ever produced by Netflix. A prequel to Jim Henson’s seminal 1982 film, this new series also features exclusively puppets, without a single human in frame. This is totally in keeping with the original film was when it was brought to life over 37 years ago. Hosting an all-star cast of voice talent, Age of Resistance expands the world created in the original film in a combination of old school methods and innovative new special effects.

But what about new fans just experiencing this world for the first time? A new “Everything You Need to Know” video explains the who, what, and why of the mystical world of the Dark Crystal for newbies who are just now discovering this saga. And it gives fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creation of this sure to be groundbreaking show.

As you can see from the video above, many members of the voice cast like Taron Egerton and Natalie Dormer were fans of the original film as kids. And clearly, stepping into the world of Thra themselves has been something of a dream come true for them. And another profoundly cool aspect of this new series is that many of Jim Henson’s original collaborators have returned to work on this show as well, including the legendary Brian and Wendy Froud. But this time, their son Toby Froud is will them. That’s a name hardcore Henson fans might recognize as the baby from the other ’80s Jim Henson classic, Labyrinth.

Age of Resistance executive producer Lisa Henson has followed in her father’s footsteps and is keeping the world of pupeteering alive in the 21st Century. Here’s hoping this new series ushers in a new age of puppet-based entertainment that expand the horizons of what’s possible in this type of storytelling.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance season one drops on August 30th.
