CRUELLA Teaser Leans Into Her Artistic Side

Better make sure your doggos are safe. Cruella de Vil is back. The iconic villain is getting her very own origin story in Disney’s live-action Cruella. The film stars Emma Stone as the young version of the stylish woman. And the movie’s first trailer shows that there’s a whole lot we don’t know about the glamorous baddie. However, it also makes clear one thing was always true—she was always dangerous.

This is only our first glimpse at the film. But this trailer hints at something we hope is true of the movie. A great villain will still be a great villain in her origin story. But this next look at Cruella shows Emma Stone’s fur-loving villain tearing things up around old London. This sneak peek focuses on Cruella’s love for creation: both of art and of, as she puts it, trouble. Perhaps there has always been more to Ms. de Vil than meets the eye… or perhaps Cruella is grasping at futs to fill out Emma Stone’s diabolical debutant.

Along with the original trailer, the film also got a pretty great new poster this week. Notice the “A” in “Emma.”

That “anarchy” symbol reflects the film’s setting of London’s punk rock scene in the ’70s. And nothing says punk rock like trying to take down a high-end fashion queen.

The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Paul Walter Hauser, Mark Strong, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Joel Fry. Cruella was first announced way back in December 2018, which may as well be a different century at this point. Like many films slated for 2020, it had its December 23 release pushed back to this year. It opens on May 28.

Just to be safe though, start keeping an eye on your dogs right now.
