Ever since Disney announced that Emma Stone would be taking on the role of 101 Dalmations‘ stylish and evil fur-loving meanie Cruella, we’ve been waiting to see just what the Mouse House had in store. Today, at their D23 panel, we got our first look at Stone as the 1970s “Punk Rock” iteration of Ms. de Vil herself and it is utterly AMAZING.
Here’s your first look at Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil in Disney's Cruella. The film, also starring Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Joel Fry, comes to theaters May 28, 2021. #D23Expo pic.twitter.com/KqxJ0yMYQ3

As revealed in the official tweet above, the film will star both Stone and Emma Thompson, who will play the younger and older versions of the iconic Disney villain. While story points are scarce, we did get a little bit more info about the outrageous live-action flick. The film is officially titled Cruella and will be set in the 1970s punk scene in London, hence Stone’s totally over-the-top look. The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry and will hit cinemas on December 23, 2020–just in time for Christmas.
Though little else is known about the prequel, if it’s anything like Disney’s Maleficent we can expect to learn a little more about Cruella and her penchant for harming cute puppies and wearing their fur. From the first official image, it seems like the young villainess might have actually been a fan of Dalmatians and maybe even owned a few herself.
We’re super stoked to see what Disney has in store, especially as the film looks unlike anything we’ve seen before.
