Looks like Bruce Wayne might be heading to The CW’s sprawling “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover this December. But it’s not any of the Bruce Waynes who have graced the big and small screen over the last 29 years. No, they’re going back to the big guns.

According to this superhero fan account, there was a newspaper spotted on the set of the show that, per the tweet above, shows Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne on the cover of the Gotham City Gazette. The article is in fact an announcement of his marriage to one Selina Kyle. If real, this is very likely just a fun Easter Egg for eagle-eyed fans to spot—it’s still really exciting.
Something that is particularly interesting here is that in the canon of the classic 1989 film and its sequel Batman Returns, Selina Kyle appeared to die after electrocuting herself and Max Schreck in the Penguin’s lair, so this would have to be a different version of the universe. Seeing as “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is all about multiple timelines and worlds, that makes a whole lot of sense.

The pair have been married in certain versions of the continuity. For instance, the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Perchance to Dream,” which sees the mad hatter torment Batman by making him think he’s married Selina. It came close to being true in main continuity before writer Tom King revealed the pair’s wedding would end in someone being left at the altar. There is an alt-universe in the comics, though, where not only did the pair get married, but they had a child named Helena who became the hero known as the Huntress. Could that be a universe we’ll get a glimpse of in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”?
Warner Bros. has already proved that they’re pulling out all the stops for this year’s crossover with announcements like the long-awaited addition of the Black Lightning family to the main CW continuity, Tom Welling returning to the role of Superman, and classic Smallville actors returning to their roles. The most recent reveal saw the news that the latter show’s Lois Lane would appear.
“We are excited to announce that Erica Durance will be reprising her role as Smallville’s Lois Lane in the crossover,” Warner Bros. stated in a press release. “Erica will guest star in multiple episodes. As mentioned with Tom Welling’s casting announcement yesterday, we will see where these characters are almost 10 years after Smallville.” With a couple of months to go until the massive event airs, there is plenty of time for the studio to add even more treats for DC fans and with little leaks like this, it looks like there will be a whole bunch of treats for viewers to enjoy.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will span five episodes across The CW’s popular superhero shows, beginning with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. The final December episode will hit with The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. In a first for the network, the crossover will continue after the holiday break with Arrow on Tuesday, Jan 14 at 8 p.m finishing with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday, Jan 14. at 9 p.m.
