Travelers, gather ’round. Enter the wondrous world of Exandria and embark on perilous adventures as the world of Critical Role comes to Codenames. Led by a GM, it’s a unique twist on the classic word association game. Czeth Games Edition announced the new addition Tuesday as part of this year’s CGE Unlocked. Contrary to tradition, Codenames: Critical Role Adventures is a cooperative version of the game in which the GM leads their party through treacherous missions, each featuring a new set of themed words.
For those who are not familiar, Codenames is a word association game where you give clues in order to help your teammate figure out your secret word before the opposing team does. The secret words are picked out from a 5×5 grid. Instead of two teams facing off against one another, Codenames: Critical Role Adventures is cooperative. A daring party of adventurers undergo three glorious campaigns, unlocking new abilities to defeat a formidable foe. Players can choose between seven Critical Role characters. Think Codenames meets D&D.
The official description of the game is as follows:
Enter the world of Exandria, a land of infinite wonder and unexpected champions, and experience the Critical Role adventures through Codenames. Assemble a party of heroes from the first three Critical Role campaigns, embark on missions, and level up your characters to defeat the final boss.
In addition to the Critical Role-inspired game, CGE launched a Vox Machina expansion pack. The pack transforms gameplay with 42 additional words, two new items, and the chance to include the character Keyleth into your party. The Vox Machina expansion pack is not compatible with base Codenames.
