Here’s a gem of a documentary for you: It’s called Class Action Park and it’s about Action Park, an amusement park once considered the most dangerous in America. In the trailer for the film, we get a (bloody) taste of what it was like to become the “Center of the Action”! We get anecdotes from celebrities who had been to the infamous park that injured countless people and took the lives of six others.
For those who haven’t heard of it, Action Park was an amusement park you’d go to if you were literally insane. That is not an exaggeration. Wikipedia notes that many of its water slides and rides — seemingly all of them — resulted in serious injury; particularly serious head injury. People died on the rides as well, sometimes only weeks apart. When one of the people interviewed in the trailer says that he and his friends attended the park because they were “[trying] to die to have fun,” that is apparently 100% truth.
I went as a kid and survived never knew why my parents were so freaked out. I started working there when it turned to mountain creek. I ended up as a 17 year old breaking a guys arm on the ski lift because I probably shouldn’t have been doing that at 18. But loved working there!

Some more detailed information beneath the trailer (which comes via Laughing Squid) notes that Action Park “was as a lawless land, ruled by drunk teenage employees and frequented by drunker teenage guests. The rides ignored basic notions of physics, common sense, and safety. The end result lay somewhere between Lord of the Flies and a Saw movie.” Really though, were the park’s attendees temporarily insane, or is there some irresistible siren call that comes from really tall water slides?
The full documentary, made by filmmakers Chris Charles Scott and Seth Porges, doesn’t have a release date yet, but the site for the film says that it’s coming soon. Until then, we’ll just have to make due with watching people forge thermite swords.
