Chris Evans will probably have to answer questions about whether or not Steve Rogers will return to the MCU, as Captain America or otherwise, for the rest of his life. This notion made all the more likely by Evans’ final MCU appearance bringing us an older version of Steve Rogers. Most recently, Chris Evans answered the question at the C2E2 convention, Variety reports. And though Evans’ answer didn’t change much from previous ones, it did leave a hopeful ring in the air. Honestly, we don’t need Chris Evans to return to the MCU as Captain America. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is Captain America now. But we wouldn’t mind seeing more tales of Steve Rogers with Chris Evans bringing him to life.
Here’s what Chris Evans had to say about a Steve Rogers return and the MCU as a whole:
It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply. He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it… it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well… As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people, it doesn’t quite feel right right now.
Not right now is not forever, though. Hopefully, we’ll get to see some of those Steve Rogers stories in future MCU outings, in the Captain America franchise or elsewhere. We could think of more than a few loose Steve Rogers’ ends that could use some tying up.
