Black Panther is a movie phenomenon; it's breaking box office records left and right. This is more than just another Marvel superhero movie, especially for African Americans, who are finally seeing a lead hero who honors them and their culture on the big screen. In light of this fact, on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week (via Variety), Fallon arranged for select Black Panther fans to get the shock of a lifetime by bringing Chadwick Boseman in to surprise them on the set of the show.
Each fan was told they had been specifically chosen to film a special video message to Boseman, telling the actor all about just what it is that Black Panther means to them. Just that part of the video alone is incredible. But all the while, Boseman was watching and listening to them from behind a curtain. About halfway through each of the messages, the actor comes out and surprises fans. To say they're overjoyed to see the man who plays T'Challa is an understatement.
Each of the fans had a very different reaction, and one fan said he's such a huge fan of the film, "he'd seen it twice in theaters and once on bootleg." (I guess that's a compliment?) But maybe my favorite is the mother and her young son, who told Boseman her son's life "had been defined by Barack Obama and now Black Panther."
What did you think of Chadwick Boseman's surprise visit with the fans? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
