It’s already been a year since Pokémon Go launched and took over basically the entire world last summer, and while the game might not be quite as popular now as it was during its apex, it’s still shown that it’s a mobile gaming force: Niantic reports that players have caught “over 125 billion Pokémon,” which is an absolutely staggering amount. The game is celebrating the anniversary in a way that should please fans of the anime: Starting today and until July 24, players will be able to catch Ash’s Pikachu, aka one wearing Ash’s signature green triangle hat.

From the sounds of it, it looks like every Pikachu seen in the wild will be wearing the hat, so hopefully it won’t be too challenging to get one. It had at least better be easier than it was for Ash himself to get his Pikachu into a Pokéball, because I don’t have the patience to have Pikachu flick my Pokéballs back at me with his tail:
The event will also include the opportunity to make your catching ’em all easier with a “special limited-time Anniversary Box, which will include Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls, and Raid Passes at a discount in the in-game shop.”
So go forth and capture your hatted Pikachus, and if you’re evil, evolve it. For those of you who haven’t opened the Pokémon Go app in a while: Are these incentives enough to get you playing again, or is your time with the game over? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
