One of the key actors in the iconic cast of Breaking Bad has left us, and far, far too soon. As first reported by Deadline, actor RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr./Flynn on each season of Breaking Bad, has passed away at the age of 34. No known cause of death was given, and his representatives only said that he died in Brownsville, Texas. Aside from being a working actor, Mitte also became a disability-rights activist. He used his platform as someone living with cerebral palsy to bring attention to the cause.

In a statement, RJ Mitte’s representatives said, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.” The actor was born in 1992, and was only fifteen years old when he began filming Breaking Bad for AMC. He stayed on for the entire series run. He was often present in breakfast scenes, blissfully unaware that his beloved dad (Bryan Cranston) was becoming a monster. Flynn was one of the very few characters on the series remaining entirely sympathetic from start to finish.
Mittle served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, as well as president of The Mitte Foundation, which supports philanthropic efforts and community initiatives. In terms of his acting career, beyond Breaking Bad, RJ Mitte recently starred in Love Me Dead in 2024, and 2025’s Westhampton. He had just finished another film, titled Talking to Stangers, and even appeared on podcasts recently promoting it. Last year, Mitte announced his engagment to his long-term partner Kennedy Suarez, who he began dating in 2018. Breaking Bad recently topped the list of the greatest television series of the 21st century by The New York Times. And RJ Mitte’s kind hearted character was a part of that show’s success. Our hearts go out to his friends and family at the time.
