Bethesda Gives Update on FALLOUT 5 and Remastered Faves

Only last week, we shared the news that Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind the beloved Fallout: New Vegas, would take over development of the new game in the long-running sci-fi RPG series. This was supremely good news for fans who think New Vegas is the high-water mark for the franchise. Bethesda—the massive gaming studio that owns the Fallout IP—gave a brief update on what’s coming down the pike for wastelanders and Brotherhood alike.

As part of a wider “State of the Studio”-style release on their website, Bethesda shared news about the series. Fallout 5, the long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s Fallout 4, the most recent mainline game, is their main priority. “Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now.” The company also later said Fallout 5 was in “preproduction” as opposed to Elder Scrolls VI which is in development.

Among those other projects include a follow-up to the multiplayer Fallout 76 game. “we have a major Fallout 76 expansion planned for next year: Raven Rock, a prequel story to Fallout 3.” And speaking of 3, Bethesda plans to release remastered, versions of Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the near future. No release dates yet for any of these.

Additionally, the company discussed new content for the mobile game Fallout Shelter, including new Seasons. “An unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is also in the works with our partners at Amazon Studios and Kilter Films,” the statement went on. Bethesda also applauded Kilter Films for earning 10 Emmy nominations for Fallout season two, with a third season currently in production.

Finally, Bethesda shared that while they won’t host a Fallout Day event this year, they are planning a big one for 2027 to commemorate the series’ 30th anniversary. They plan to celebrate live in Washington, D.C.
