It may have only just ended, but in retrospect, 2018 was an excellent year for movies. From the high-octane performance of mega-hits like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Aquaman, to critically acclaimed features like A Star Is Born, Roma, and Hereditary, there was peak entertainment for movie fans of every stripe. One of those fans celebrated the year by recreating some of the most iconic scenes of the year in LEGO form, a fun alternative to the other tribute videos that come in this time of year. Check it out!
YouTube user Toscano Bricks, who is known for his painstaking Lego recreation videos, created the homage, titled "2018 Movies in LEGO." It opens with the heartbreaking goodbye moment between Peter Parker and Tony Stark from the end of Infinity War, before expanded to include a wide variety of film references, from Cher in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, to Mark Rylance as James Halliday in Ready Player One, to Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2. Other memorable characters from the year announce themselves throughout the colorful montage. I especially love seeing the "I hate you"/"I know" callback between Lando and Han from Solo: A Star Wars Story in the mix; the entire video is full of pleasant winks to the films it features, including actual dialogue from the actors. The video is also heavy on superhero movie references, dedicating a lot of space to Infinity War and Black Panther, and for good reason; not only were they two of the biggest movies of the year, but they also feature plenty of characters who already have their own LEGO versions! Plus, it's pretty awesome seeing the Wakandan army in LEGO form mounting their spears. If you're a fan of the video, be sure to check out Toscano Brick's other LEGO trailers and scene recreations. We can't imagine how much time and love goes into creating them!
