Christian Dior and Coco Chanel Battle for More Than Just Fashion Supremacy in THE NEW LOOK Trailer

You don’t have to frequent Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or 5th Avenue in New York City to know names like Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. They’re two of fashions most legendary brands. But even if you frequently wear their clothes you might not know the story behind the designers who turned their designs into global icons. That’s about to change with Apple TV’s new star-studded 10-part mini-series The New Look. It’s intense first trailer reveals a personal story about how Dior and Chanel reshaped fashion after World War II tore the world apart.

We have lifelong season passes for anything Ben Mendelsohn is in, so we didn’t need a trailer this good to get us excited for The New Look. But he’s not the only big name bringing this story to life. Juliette Binoche stars opposite his Dior as fellow Parisian designer and rival Coco Chanel. The show also features Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior and John Malkovich as Lucien Lelong. Emily Mortimer joins them as Elsa Lombardi, Claes Bang plays Spatz, and Glenn Close stars as Carmel Snow.

Set against the World War II Nazi occupation of Paris, The New Look focuses on the pivotal moment in the 20th century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior. As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more; and, provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.

The New Look comes from writer, director, and executive producer Todd A. Kessler (Damages). In addition to the story’s big names, it also has some big names providing music. Jack Antonoff curated the soundtrack. It will have covers of popular early to mid-twentieth century songs from famous musicians. That includes songs from Bleachers, Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey, Matty Healy (The 1975), Beabadoobee, Nick Cave, Perfume Genius, and more.

When Does The New Look Release?

The first three episodes debut at Apple TV+ on Wednesday, February 14. A new episode will then follow every Wednesday until the finale on April 3. Feel free to wear whatever you want when watching it, even if that means sweatshirts and flannel pants. You don’t need to look stylish to enjoy this story of style icons.
