Of all the many celebrities in Hollywood, Chris Evans would not be anywhere near the top of my list of which ones to toss into an active volcano. (No, obviously I will not provide you the list of which ones would be. I’m a professional.) But in the first trailer for Netflix’s Sacrifice, Anya Taylor-Joy’s plan to save a dying world is to make Evans’ famous movie star the feature player in a feature offering.
Celebrities: they’re just like us! But mostly/only in the sense that they are also made of flesh and bone, both of which will instantly explode if they come in contact with literal magma. Otherwise, they might as well be aliens living on a different planet than the one we know. And that’s exactly why they will seemingly make up a fitting offering to an angry Mother Earth in Sacrifice. Here’s the official synopsis for Sacrifice from Netflix to go with that trailer:
During a star-studded charity gala brimming with celebrities, billionaires and empty speeches, a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis (Evans) is taken hostage by a radical warrior (Taylor-Joy) and her devoted followers. As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur.
Sacrifice comes from director Romain Gavras (Athena). It also stars Vincent Cassel and Salma Hayek-Pinault. Cassel plays a billionaire and Hayek-Pinault plays his wife. The cast also includes, Ambika Mod, Sam Richardson, John Malkovich, and Charli XCX as Mother Nature.

Look, if Mother Nature demands a sacrifice, she demands a sacrifice. Whether or not it is fair to make an actor a part of our offering depends on the actor. Will Chris Evans’ fictional one be the kind I would put at the top of my own list? We’ll find out when Sacrifice premieres on Netflix on October 16.
