We’ve all been there. Fingers dusted with some tartrazine-tinted flavoring and possibly inebriated because you’re into hour 4 of your Dungeons & Dragons session and you get thirsty.
You find your character in a situation where you might need to make a jump. You shudder as you consider the possibility of bringing orange-stained fingers to your Player’s Handbook and flipping through the pages, not just because of the grease stains that are a given, but also the inevitable calculations based on your stats, compounded by your various class abilities and equipment, to see if you can even make such a leap.
Or we can thank the many gods of the Forgotten Realms for people like Reddit user fek_ who created the 5e Jump Calculator that does all the math for you.
Got a halfling rogue thief who stands 3 feet tall with Second Story Work and Boots of Striding and Springing? It’s got you.
Plug in the stats, and you’re good to go. It’s even got some helpful reminders for DMs for various considerations (like obstacles and difficult terrain.) Sure, you may have to do some fun trigonometry to figure out your jump distances for a leap that is both vertical and horizontal, but with this tool, the numbers are there for you to work from, at least.
For my group, who comes from a miniature gaming background and as such cares deeply about precise movement, we’ll be using this tool a lot. If your gaming group is similarly inclined, you’ll want to bookmark this one.
