Access granted: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Cookie Badges

Powered by Geek & Sundry

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on September 29th and lanyards will be issued on a case-by-case basis. Luckily, you can get your own with these delicious and fun-to-make S.H.I.E.L.D. ID badges cookies, so you’ll get all the clearance you need.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • White Chocolate
  • Orange Candy Melts
  • Candy rope, like Twizzlers or Sour Belts
  • Graham Crackers
  • Parchment Paper
  • Small piping bags or Sandwich Bags
  • Grey Candy Melts or Black Candy Melts
  • Baking Sheets or Flat Cutting Board
  • Vegetable Shortening (Optional)
  • Microwave Safe Bowls

TO MAKE THE ID BADGE:

Take a graham cracker and carefully score an inch or so off of one end. Keep cutting along this line slowly until you’ve cut all the way through the cracker and it comes off cleanly in one piece. This is to make sure you don’t end up with a crumbly mess, and all in one piece afterwards!

Melt your white chocolate, taking care to save a piece or two for your grey piped S.H.I.E.L.D. logo. Melt your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, the wider the better.

Tip: Melt the candy melts in 30 sec intervals, stirring gently in-between. Too much stirring can make chocolate clump together. Find more tips on how to get perfectly smooth chocolate here.

Dip your graham cracker into the white chocolate, coating it completely. Be sure to dip the back of the cracker, as this will be the front of the ID. The back of the graham crackers is smoother than the front, so by using the back, you will have a nice, even surface to work with. Shake the dipped cracker from side to side until the access chocolate has dripped back into the bowl. Set aside on a baking sheet or flat cutting board covered with parchment paper to let the chocolate set.

Once your chocolate-covered graham cracker has hardened, melt your orange candy melts the same way you melted your white chocolate. You can thin out your melts with melted vegetable shortening if it’s too clumpy or hard to work with. Dip half the graham cracker into the orange melts, and shake off the access. Set aside to let harden.

TO MAKE THE LOGO:

Melt the leftover white chocolate and add 2-3 disks of black candy melts to create grey. You can also use grey candy melts if black are difficult to find. Once your grey chocolate has cooled (but not hardened), pour it into a small piping bag (you can also use a small sandwich bag with one corner snipped off the end). You can either free-hand the logo, or print up a reversed image (you will be flipping the logo over once the chocolate hardens) of the badge taped to the underside of your parchment paper. Pipe slowly, starting with an outline and then filling in with the leftover chocolate.

Let set for a few minutes, then use your leftover white and orange chocolate to fill in the halves of the logo. This will make it easier to remove off the parchment and keep it from breaking.

Once set, you can peel off the logo and place it on your graham cracker. Use a little bit of leftover chocolate to ‘glue’ the logo on.

TO MAKE THE LANYARD:

For the lanyard, we chose our favorite rope-like candy and adhered it to the back of the graham cracker with a small amount of chocolate. You can use whatever rope-like candy you like best, like rainbow Twizzlers for a fun color, or black licorice if you’re feeling Nick Fury-level professional.

And you’re done! With your own S.H.I.E.L.D. lanyard badge, you’re set to go toe-to-toe with Hydra and gain access to the most restricted areas of the Helicarrier.

Once you’re done, tweet us a picture of your new ID to verify your access and let us know how it went!
