ABBA Tunes Make Marvel Movie Moments Even More Fabulous

It’s fair to say we are in the midst of an ABBA revival of epic proportions. Not only were ABBA songs used once again for this summer’s big screen sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, but soon pop icon Cher will release an album of songs which are all covers of hits from the Swedish pop group’s catalog. There are even rumors once again that ABBA themselves will reunite after three decades (we’ll believe that when we see it), and now the revival of interest in all things ABBA has infected the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this is one you can thank the fans for.

We’ve learned, thanks to the folks over at The Mary Sue, that one fan set the iconic action sequence from Captain America: The Winter Solider which features Black Widow, Falcon and Cap fighting Bucky Barnes on the streets of Washington to the ABBA classic “Lay All Your Love On Me.” And it works kind of shockingly well.

Of course, ABBA’s greatest hit is probably their 1977 single “Dancing Queen,” which has been used in a couple of different Marvel mash-up videos. One of them features the Odinson in a scene from Thor: Ragnarok, where the needle drop is now that disco classic instead of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” But “Dancing Queen” is perhaps even more rousing when set to the army of Wakanda going against Thanos’ forces from the climactic battle in Avengers: Infinity War.

Inspired Marvel fans have continued to create their own videos of MCU scenes set to ABBA songs, and you can check out a handful more of these down below. Could these persuade Kevin Feige to actually include an ABBA song in a future film? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems like the obvious fit, but who knows when that’s even happening now. We just know that we’re keeping our fingers crossed for “Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)” to show up in whatever movie Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man shows up next in.

Which ABBA song do you want to see mashed-up with the MCU? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments.
