Queer. It’s been a slur. It’s been reclaimed (by some). It’s how I personally identify. And now Queer is also the name of Luca Guadagnino’s latest movie. We’ve known Queer, which stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, was in the works for some time at A24, but now we finally get to see the first trailer for the film. True to Guadagnino’s style, it’s sensuous, surreal, and well, queer. You can take a look at Queer‘s first trailer below.
Queer‘s Romantic Trailer, starring Daniel Craig, and Synopsis
We love an esoteric queer movie. We greatly enjoyed A24’s Love Lies Bleeding when it came out in March. And we bet we’ll have a great time with Queer. If Love Lies Bleeding felt like a hard-hitting ’80s power ballad, Queer offers something a little softer. There’s a great sensation of loneliness in Queer‘s trailer, but also a lot of hope. And the synopsis for Queer helps us make a little bit more sense out of what we’re seeing in our first look at the Luca Guadagnino film. As a note, Queer is based on the novel by William S. Burroughs.
Queer‘s synopsis reads as follows, check it out as you watch the trailer:
1950. William Lee, an American expat in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody.
The release for the movie also notes that this film features “a tender and transfixing Daniel Craig.” And we can certainly see that unfolding in the trailer. Queer seems almost like a culmination of a journey for Craig, who has gone from Bond to Benoit Blanc (to dancing in a Belvedere Vodka ad) to Queer’s William Lee. We salute and support him in this adventure.
Also featuring prominently in Queer‘s trailer is Drew Starkey. And, of course, the romance between between the two men. We’re happy to see it. Queer also stars Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, and Omar Apollo.
When Does Luca Guadagnino’s Queer Release in Theaters?
Luca Guadagnino’s Queer releases in theaters on November 27. We can’t wait to see Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey’s romance blossom in full… and hopefully not end in tragedy.
