Exactly 10 years after Lady Gaga arrived on the music scene with “Just Dance,” the pop music icon is making her feature film debut alongside Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros’ much anticipated A Star Is Born. The film is also being directed by Cooper, his first time behind the camera in an official capacity. Also joining the cast are Dave Chappelle, Sam Elliott, and Andrew Dice Clay. You can check out the first trailer for the film down below.
According to the film’s official description, this will be a new take on the tragic love story, as Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers—and falls in love with—struggling artist Ally, played by Gaga. She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer when Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship breaks, down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons. This will be the fourth time A Star Is Born has been made into a film. The first time was in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, and it was then remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976, this time starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Now after skipping a generation or so, the perennial Hollywood tale will be getting a 21st century update.
Although this isn’t Gaga’s acting debut (she won a Golden Globe for her first acting gig, as the Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel), it will be interesting to see if her usually loyal fan base embraces the movie. Although Gaga has had country tinged songs in the past, most recently on her last album Joanne, Gaga’s Little Monsters always prefer her dancing up a storm in glitter go-go boots. Are they going to want to pay to see a stripped-down, acoustic version of their idol without the usual Gaga trappings? This Gaga fan right here admits he’s still on the fence, but open to having his mind changed. We’ll find out when the film is released on October 5.
