A Cure Arrives in 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE

We had to wait five years for the first sequel to 28 Days Later. Then it took nearly two decades for the franchise’s third film to come out. But the series isn’t wasting any time getting its fourth installment to the big screen. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will come to theaters in early 2026, and its great, unsettling new trailer makes us very happy we won’t have to wait too long to see it. That’s good news for the infected as well, because in 28 Days Later, our favorite skull-loving doctor might finally have the franchise’s first cure.

This 28 Years Later trailer is a creepy, haunting mix of madness, terror, and even some hope. The story centers on its predecessor’s curious doctor with a fondness for bones, Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Kelson. It will also continue where 28 Years Later left off (the second entry in a planned trilogy). The last movie ended with an adult Jimmy Crystal finding young Spike out in the wild.

In addition to the trailer, here is 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple‘s official synopsis from Sony Pictures:

In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship – with consequences that could change the world as they know it – and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare he can’t escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

While Alex Garland once again wrote the script, this time Nia DaCosta (2021’s Candyman, Hedda) is in the director’s chair. Danny Boyle serves as a producer. It will also see the return of Chi Lewis-Parry as our favorite Alpha (and apparently Kelson’s best new bud), Samson. Erin Kellyman is also getting in on the zombie fun. We love all of these people, and we LOVE the trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, so our hopes are high. We’ll be interested to see how this franchise tackles a cure, especially since it’s heavily on the mind of another big zombie franchise, The Last of Us.

So, does Kelson really have a cure for the infected in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple? We’re grateful we won’t have long to find out. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple rushes into theaters early next year on January 16, 2026.
